Are Consults Free?
Some lawyers do offer free consults to get people in the door. At Seattle Divorce Services, we believe in charging a reasonable but reduced fee for the initial consultation, and then giving good value for that fee. We don’t rush you out the door because the time allotted for the consult is up — we spend time getting to know you, answering your questions, and discussing your options with you.
Frankly, we charge a small initial fee because we want clients who value our knowledge and experience, not people who are just running from law office to law office looking for free advice. We believe that the information you get at the initial consultation will be well worth the money you paid, and may help you avoid costly mistakes down the road.
When you come in for your initial meeting with one of our attorneys, you may find it helpful to make a list of any questions you have, to make sure that you don’t forget anything you had been wondering about. No one likes to walk out of a meeting and remember “Oh, I wanted to ask about …” At the same time we will listen to your description of what is going on and try to anticipate information that we think it would be good for you to know. Sometimes clients don’t yet know enough about divorce to know what questions to ask.
When you call into schedule your first appointment, we try to help you get matched up with the attorney who will be the best fit for you. Reading over the profiles of our attorneys may help you decide for yourself who you would like to work with. We want you to find the attorney that you will work best with, and the best fit for you is not necessarily the best fit for the next client.
